unique date night ideas in oklahoma city

There’s no need to go on the same old boring, routine date nights when you live in or visit Oklahoma City. With the opportunities the city has to offer year-round, there are plenty of unique date night ideas in Oklahoma City whether it’s a first date or an evening out with your significant other.

Here are a few ideas you’ll want to consider to plan a memorable night (or day) on the town:

Unique Date Night Ideas in Oklahoma City

Go to the Park

Scissortail Park is a 70-acre urban park that offers plenty of things to do. It’s our top pick for a robust date night with something for everyone.

Music lovers can check out the Live From the Lawn concert series (be sure to bring your lawn chairs). Or you can go nostalgic and roller skate hand in hand around the Sky Rink.

Enjoy a day date at the Farmers Market (seasonal Saturdays) or on the water with pedal boats, canoes and kayaks.

And be sure to indulge in the food truck offerings.

Take a Cruise

Take a public ferry on the Oklahoma River to explore Oklahoma City.

Also check out the Ferry Fun Cruises throughout the year with themes such as Bike & Ride (April 1 – November 30) where you bring your bike aboard and experience breathtaking urban and wetland views as you travel back to your car via bicycle.

The History Comes Alive Series (Saturdays from June 6 – August 22) features actors performing moments in Oklahoma’s history. Learn and have fun in comfort on the climate-controlled cruiser.

Cocktail Cruises depart at 6:30 and 8:30 on Fridays and Saturdays. Relax and experience unique views of the Boathouse District, the Wheeler Ferris wheel, and possibly an amazing Oklahoma sunset.

A cruise on the Oklahoma River is sure to be a memorable date!

Climb a Grain Silo

Wait. . .what?

Climbing farm equipment doesn’t sound like a safe (or legal) date, but at Summit Climbing, located in downtown OKC, re-purposed grain silos make up a 12,000 square foot facility of climbing terrain perfect for individuals and couples at every level.

Orientation is required for new climbers, but there are also full climbing classes available for you and your darling date.

Not feeling daring enough to climb a boulder or a wall? Relax and try some yoga instead.

Throw an Axe

Release some tension from the week with a little ax throwing. Bad Axe offers two locations in Oklahoma City with walk-in hours. These hours can change, so check their website two hours before you walk in.

There is a brief orientation and according to their website no one has ever been injured during axe throwing in their facilities.

You are welcome to bring your own food. Beer and wine is available for purchase.

Tiptoe through the Tulips

Myriad Botanical Gardens helps you get in touch with nature and have a romantic date with your significant other.

Enjoy the intimacy of the scenic walking and jogging paths and behold the breathtaking indoor and outdoor horticultural displays.

Take a ride on the carousel.

A seasonal ice-skating rink also gives you another fun way to enjoy a unique date experience during the winter months.

Get into the Swing

Swing dancing, that is! Oklahoma City Swing Dance Club conducts weekly dance lessons and also offers special dance parties for people in different age groups.

Their website features a calendar offering swing dancing, square dancing, country dancing and even ballroom dancing. They even offer private lessons for those that need a little extra help.

Grab your partner and swing to popular foot-tapping music. It is one of the best ways to spend a relaxed, yet fun-filled evening.

Explore Your Artsy Side

Rated one of the top 10 things to do in Oklahoma City by TripAdvisor, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art offers exquisite exhibits of everything from Chihuly glass to traveling historical paintings.

You can also check out a film at the Noble Theatre or opt for the virtual experience with a date night on the couch.

Drive-in Under the Stars

Go parking with your sweetie and enjoy a movie under the stars! Open since 1968, the Winchester Drive-In is a tradition a land mark in Oklahoma City.

They offer full-service concessions where you can order everything from pepperoni pizza and burritos to barbecue sandwiches and ice cream.

Open mainly Friday and Saturday, with the occasional Thursday feature thrown in.

Tour a Mansion

Henry Overholser, known as the “Father of Oklahoma City” left behind the historical mansion which was considered OKC’s first of its kind. The mansion is not just a home, it’s an architecturally sound work of art which hosts social gatherings throughout Oklahoma City.

Overholser’s wife left the home to the city upon her death and the mansion was officially listed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1970.

Tours last approximately 35-35 minutes and are a great way to hold hands and look at some beautiful OKC history with your sweetie. Guided tours are on the hour (from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.) Tuesday-Saturday from February-December.

Go Beer Hopping

Craft breweries are all the rage and OKC has it’s fair share. While their website seems to still be a work in progress, BeerHopOKC.com offers brewery guides at locations throughout the metro.

The guide features a list of breweries as well as the amenities each has to offer like food, non-alcoholic options, dog-friendly environments, family friendly, etc.

Grab a guide, grab your date, map your route and get hopping!

Ride the Wheel

Head to the Wheeler district, home to the historic Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel. Overlooking the downtown skyline, the Wheeler Ferris Wheel stands 100 feet above the bank of the Oklahoma River. Rides run Tuesday – Sunday.

Bring a picnic lunch and they will even provide a picnic blanket!

The Great Escape

Test your compatibility at The Escape OKC where you and your date will be “locked” in a room for one hour. It’s up to you to find the clues and solve the puzzles to enable your “escape” before the time runs out!

Groups of two must reserve on Wednesday, Thursday or Sunday. Consider a double date to meet the minimum person requirement on Friday or Saturday.

Each room has a unique story which unfolds with each new clue. It’ll take quick thinking and a lot of teamwork.
