My fashion style is what you’d call classic. Partly because it’s just the way I am, and partly because it’s easier on the budget. I save alot of money by keeping my clothing pieces pretty basic and topping off with fun accessories. It’s really easy to find low cost accessories if you know where to look.
However, every now and then, I run into an outfit that I can’t find the right accessories for – at least not without spending more than I’d like. That’s why I love the idea of making my own jewelry. There are so many easy ideas and tutorials and I’m sharing one with you today.
By purchasing a pendant kit at your favorite craft store, you can create a necklace that’s perfect for that hard to match ensemble. In this tutorial, we used a fun design on scrapbook paper, but you can use images from magazine, photos or even fabric.
DIY Modern Pendant Necklace
You will need:
- scrapbook paper, photo or other image
- glass glue
- pendant kit with clear plastic indents and metal pendants
- necklace, ribbon, or string for charm to hang on
Instructions:
Begin by applying a small amount of glue to the back of the clear stone part of the pendant.
Carefully press the stone onto the scrapbook paper over the area you want to appear on your pendant.
Let the glue dry completely before carefully trimming the extra paper away from the stone with scissors or a knife.
When the paper is trimmed away and the glue is totally dry add a small amount of glue to the inside of the metal part of the pendant.
Firmly press the stone into the metal pendant. Allow the glue to dry completely.
Place the pendant on a chain, ribbon, or cord that compliments the colors in the pendant.

That works out to just $1.59 each!

Love it! It’s brilliant and something my daughter would love. I think I know what to do with all the extra Christmas gift wrap paper, for inexpensive gifts for every other girl my daughter knows!
I love this, and I have made necklaces like this too. Have you found that the glue turns the ink in the paper colors? I have had trouble with photo paper. I know the surface is not the best to glue something on. So I wondered how patterned paper has worked for you? And do you get tiny specks of glue that seem to reflect light and cause glare? Crafting problems! Thank you!!
What a beautiful necklace! I just started getting into jewelry making. I will have to look into the pendant kit. I just love getting crafty!
