Buying gifts for teachers can quickly add up. And of course, there’s always the question of “what would a teacher really like to receive?” One thing I know for sure is that teachers certainly appreciate handmade gifts. Especially when it’s something they can use.

That’s why this DIY Washi Tape Clipboard is the perfect teacher gift. It’s frugal (costs approximately $6 to make), it’s handmade and your teacher can use it in the classroom for years to come.

Oh, and there’s a bonus. This handmade gift is so easy to make that your KIDS can do it!

You can choose to be as simple or as complicated as you want with this craft. The design is yours!

Supplies:

  • Clipboard
  • Washi Tape (less than one roll, I bought three for this design and I still have over half of each roll left)
  • Fabric Ribbon (I used several different colors of scrap ribbon that I had)
  • Gift Wrapping Ribbon (the kind you can curly-Q)
  • Paint
  • Exacto Knife
  • Paint Brush
  • Scissors
  • Glue

 Instructions:

First apply a thin coat of paint to the edge of the clipboard. Let dry.

While waiting for paint to dry, cut ribbon into several 15 inch lengths and (1) 6 inch length. Set aside.

Begin tearing off strips of washi tape and placing it in rows across the clipboard as shown in the photo below. Don’t worry about making it even at this point.

Once you get up around the clip part, you will need to use the exacto knife to trim around it.

When the entire board is covered, trim the edges evenly with the exacto knife.

If desired, use the paint brush to seal the edges with a light light layer of glue. Let dry.

Next, use the longer ribbon pieces to assemble a bow. Here’s how I made mine:

  • Fold the fabric ribbon in thirds and stack in the order you want it to show.
  • Lay the pieces of gift wrapping ribbon over the top.
  • Use the shortest piece of ribbon to tie it all together.
  • Use scissors to curl the paper ribbon.
  • Fluff the other parts of the bow.

Use the ends of the shorter ribbon to attach the bow to the clip on the clipboard.

I’ll admit, this is not my best bow. I assembled it in less than 1 minute before I had to leave for the new station. (Yes, procrastination at its finest). The more pieces of ribbon you use, the fluffier and fancier you bow will be. Be sure to include a pop of color.

I guarantee if your child makes this DIY Washi Tape Clipboard as a gift for their teacher, they will go down in history! Find out what your child’s teacher’s favorite colors are and have fun with it.
