Savvy Shopper's Guide - What to buy in August

Savvy Shopper's Guide Overview

What to Buy in August

Transition is the theme of what to buy in August as we balance between saying goodbye to summer and welcoming fall. You’ll find back to school sales in full swing along with retailers discounting outdoor living items to make room for cooler weather inventory.

The month of August is also:

  • National Peach Month*
  • National Sandwich Month*
  • Children’s Vision and Learning Month*

*expect to see sales centered around these promotions

August features great deals in these categories:

  • Linen and Storage Containers – With kids headed off to college, all your dorm essential will be on sale.
  • Patio Furniture – As the summer season draws to a close, you’ll enjoy saving from 50%-60% off patio furniture and other outdoor items.
  • Lawn Mowers – The end of the summer is a great time to score big savings on yard care equipment and tools.
  • Last Minute Vacations – If you travel after August 15th, you might be able to save big on a last minute summer vacation.
  • Back to School Supplies – Although the best deals happened in July, you’ll still be able to cash in on sweet back to school deals.
  • Computers – With so many students headed back to college, you’ll see some great deals on computers. Although, if you can, you might want to wait for a better deal over Black Friday.
  • Lunch Box Items – Keeping with the back to school theme, lots of convenient lunch box items will be on sale at the grocery store.
  • Labor Day Sales – Everything you need for your Labor Day cookout including hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks, watermelon, condiments.
  • Glasses & Contacts – look for sales on (specifically children’s) prescription eye glasses and contacts.
