If you’re looking for natural skin care recipes, this Oat and Honey Face Scrub is perfect for dry, sensitive skin. The best part about this scrub is that you can pronounce every ingredient and wouldn’t hesitate to put them IN your body, so you won’t worry about putting them ON your body.
Oatmeal soothes dry and irritated skin while moisturizing at the same time. It’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties are amazing! Honey is antibacterial and helps to clarify the skin – make sure you use raw honey for the best benefits. Coconut oil moisturizes, protects, heals and is antimicrobial. You can also add your own essential oils to customize your experience (see chart below).
Essential oils carry many benefits depending on the oil you choose. My personal favorites are lavender and frankincense. Lavender has a reputation for establishing balance for combination skin and frankincense is known for it’s wrinkle reducing powers.
You’ll love how this Oatmeal Honey Face Scrub will soothe and moisturize even the most dry, irritated skin.
How to Make Oat & Honey Face Scrub
Ingredients:
- 2 parts oatmeal
- 1 part honey
- 1 part coconut oil
- drops of essential oils in proportion (optional)
Instructions:
- Grind the oats until they become fine.
- If coconut oil is solid, heat it for a moment until it becomes liquid. Combine with the honey and essential oils. The mixture will be thick and sticky.
- Add the ground oats to the honey and coconut oil mixture.
- Apply the scrub to your face making sure to cover completely. Leave it on for 5 or 6 minutes. Scrub the mixture around before rinsing off your face.
You can opt to mix up just enough Oatmeal and Honey Scrub for one application, or you could make a larger batch and store in a mason jar. Keep in mind that the coconut will solidify in cooler temperatures so keep in a warm place.
You can also opt to add your essential oils to each individual application according to your skin’s current needs. I like to use a couple drops of lavender on my skin every day, but alternate frankincense, cedarwood and lemon.* I also use ylang ylang from time to time.
*lemon is photosensitive so be careful about using on skin that will be exposed to the sun.
