3 Things You Should Do Every Morning – Even If You’re NOT a Morning Person

Three Things You Should Do Every Morning

I am so not a morning person.

I’ve always been a night owl. As a young person, I loved staying up late to read a good book, write in my journal or watch romantic comedies. And when the sun peaked its face over the horizon, I was groaning and pulling the covers over my head.

Those tendencies followed me into adulthood, only now I find myself staying up late to blog (as I’m writing this at 12 am), read a good book or finish things I didn’t get done during the day.

No matter how long the day has been or how tired I am, I seem to always catch a second wind right around 9 pm. I feel energized and motivated during the dark hours. And I am very productive.

And when morning rolls around, I’m still groaning and pulling the covers over my head.

I’ve tried to change. Really, I have.

I’ve tried going to bed early so I’d be ready to get up at the crack of dawn, only to find myself staring at the ceiling at 11pm. I’ve tried getting up really early, so I’d be ready to go to bed early, in order to be ready to get up with the sun. Fail.

No matter how early I retire or how much sleep I get, I struggle to get moving once morning rolls around.

Of course, I have to get moving. There’s not much choice when you have a family to take care of. Or a business to run. Or when the rest of the adult world is fully functioning at that ridiculous hour.

It truly is a struggle to make my mind and body be productive before 10 am. If I’m not careful, I can waste the entire morning and end the day wondering where on earth the time went.

Over the years, I’ve found 3 things that help me kickstart my day and I’m going to share them with you. Here’s the good news….even if you ARE a morning person, these 3 things can help you start the day off right too!

Start the Morning With Gratitude

Practice Gratitude

Each day truly is a gift from God. I try to remember to wake up with words of thanksgiving on my lips. There are so many things to be thankful for and focusing on those things makes me want to make the most of my day…no matter how early it starts.

A joyful heart stems from a grateful heart and makes even the earliest morning seem a little brighter.

Get Dressed Every Morning In Something That Makes You Feel Good

Get Dressed

It’s so easy to to run the kids to school in my pajamas. Or throw on yesterday’s jeans and a sweatshirt. Or yoga pants (although I have never executed a single yoga position in my life).

But my most productive days are the ones when I wake up early enough to shower (or at least freshen up) and actually put together an outfit. With accessories. And cute shoes.

It seems to jump start my mind and trick my body into believing that it may really be closer to 10am. You. can. do. this.

Set 5-7 Goals Every Morning

Make A Short To Do List

Flying by the seat of one’s pants isn’t a proven method of productivity for anyone – morning person or not. If I don’t start with a plan, the day certainly won’t end with one coming together.

So I start each day with a short to do list. A list of 5-7 goals that I’d like to accomplish by the end of the day. Some are small and others larger, but all doable.

You can use simple pen and paper, the notes area on your smartphone, an organizational app or even my FREE household planning printables to help you stay on course.

I’m not much of a morning person until I get my coffee!! Thanks for the reminder to think on gratitude because it’s so easy to get caught up in life’s stress before our feet even hit the floor.

I am NOT a morning person….in fact, I’m a total night owl! I have to agree with the getting dressed part though…..I find that I’m more productive with clothes on – good read – thanks for sharing!
